Mies v obraze

Vernisáž proběhne 25. 3. 2026 v 18:00.

Výstava připomíná výročí 140 let od narození architekta Ludwiga Miese van der Rohe (27. 3. 1886, Cáchy – 17. 8. 1969, Chicago), který své progresivní architektonické a prostorové principy vrcholně rozvinul v návrhu brněnské vily Tugendhat.

Vedle celé řady realizovaných architektonických projektů a nadčasových návrhů v kategorii nábytkového designu (ve spolupráci zejména s designérkou Lilly Reich) tvoří Miesova volnější umělecká tvorba méně známou sféru jeho činnosti. V průběhu celé své kariéry se ale opakovaně vracel k používání technik fotomontáže a koláže jako součástí procesu navrhování či prezentace architektonických návrhů. Kvalita jeho prací nebo začlenění reprodukovaných uměleckých děl jemu blízkých umělců přitom řadí jeho koláže na pomezí mezi prostou architektonickou skicou a autonomním uměleckým dílem. Ve střední fázi své tvorby je pak zřejmý Miesův hluboký zájem o zarámování určitého výhledu z architektury směrem do krajiny, princip typický i pro vilu Tugendhat. Návštěvníci tak budou moci nahlédnout do nitra Miesovy imaginace skrze aranžované výhledy ven.

The exhibition will commemorate the 140th anniversary of the birth of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (March 27, 1886, Aachen – August 17, 1969, Chicago), who brought his progressive architectural and spatial principles to their fullest expression in the design of the Villa Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic.

Alongside a wide range of realized architectural projects and timeless furniture design proposals (created especially in collaboration with designer Lilly Reich), Mies’s freer artistic production represents a lesser-known sphere of his work. Throughout his career, however, he repeatedly returned to the use of photomontage and collage techniques as part of the process of designing or presenting architectural proposals. The quality of these works, as well as the incorporation of reproduced artworks by artists close to him, places his collages on the boundary between a simple architectural sketch and an autonomous work of art. In the middle phase of his career Mies’s deep interest in framing a specific view from architecture toward the landscape becomes evident, a principle that is also characteristic of the Villa Tugendhat. Visitors will thus be able to glimpse the inner workings of Mies’s imagination through staged outward views.
